About Me

A lawyer friend is not after your business. He’s not uptight or self-interested. He’s not wearing a suit. Unless it’s at your wedding (or to look professional on his website.) Your lawyer friend points you in the right direction, calms you down, provides clarity. Sometimes they even save you a boatload of cash with a few sage words. You feel like you’re getting insider information. That’s because you are. That’s the spirit of my practice. It’s access to friendly conversation about law and life, no holds barred. Come as you are. Of course, when I am not only giving advice, but actually performing legal services – like a contract or lease review or closing – my pricing is fair, and I strive to exceed your expectations with outstanding service, 24/7. After all, I’m not just your lawyer, I’m your friend, too. Please contact me for any reason.
Hi, I’m Michael A. Lickerman, Attorney at Law. My friends call me Mike. I earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Northwestern University in 1992 and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1995. I am licensed to practice law in Illinois and California.

When I decided to start my own law practice in 2001, I thought about what kind of lawyer I would want to use if I needed one and I wasn't a lawyer myself. I thought about how lucky I was that all of my brothers are doctors, and any time I needed medical advice I could just pick up the phone and call one of them and get what I needed. They put things in perspective, gave honest tips and advice. What a luxury, to have doctors in the family. Then it dawned on me – the same thing holds true for LAWYERS.

My friends and family are always running legal issues by me. They know I have an Ivy League law degree and I run my own successful practice. But they also know about my deadly jump shot, my passion for pizza and that I can recite “It’s A Wonderful Life,” verbatim. I’m their friend, but I’m also their lawyer.

From the beginning, I wanted to be the type of lawyer that anyone could call up for advice as if they were family or a friend, and I’d give them the straight scoop in plain english. This is the concept of The Lawyer Friend.
